Privacy Policy

PGkaro helps people find PGs, hostels and co-living in Guwahati and helps owners run them. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It follows India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

What we collect

  • Account details: name, mobile number, email and the role you sign up as (tenant or PG owner).
  • Stay details: bed, rent, deposit, bills, receipts, meal choices, complaints and move-in/move-out photos.
  • ID verification (KYC): ID documents you upload. Only you, your PG owner and PGkaro support can open them.
  • Enquiries and visits: name and WhatsApp number when you ask a PG for a visit or price.
  • Usage: pages viewed and basic device information, to keep the service fast and safe.

How we use it

  • To show listings, pass your enquiry to the PG you chose and confirm bookings.
  • To send bills, rent reminders, receipts and notices on WhatsApp, SMS or email.
  • To help owners keep tenant records, police verification and accounts.
  • To prevent fraud, settle disputes and meet legal duties.

We never sell your personal data.

Who we share it with

  • The PG owner you enquire with or stay at.
  • Service providers who run hosting, messaging, maps and payments for us, only for that purpose.
  • Government authorities when the law requires it, such as police verification.

Public listing information

Some listings were created from public Google Maps information (name, address, photos, ratings) and are marked as not yet managed by the owner. Owners can claim, correct or remove their listing at any time. An owner's private phone number is never shown publicly.

How long we keep it

We keep stay and payment records for as long as the law requires for accounting (usually 8 years). KYC documents are kept while the stay is active and for up to 1 year after move-out, unless the owner must keep them longer by law.

Your rights

  • See, correct or download your data.
  • Ask us to delete your account, subject to records we must keep by law — how to delete your PGkaro data.
  • Withdraw consent for WhatsApp messages at any time by replying STOP or writing to us.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited by role (tenant, owner, support), and ID documents are stored privately.
