PG and hostel stays in Hojai and Nagaon: a guide for students and job-joiners

How renting works in smaller towns

Many places are rooms in family homes or small PGs run by the owner, often found through word of mouth. That can mean home food and a personal touch, but also fewer written rules. Ask for everything that matters in writing.

• Hojai — many students come for colleges and Rabindranath Tagore University; look near the institution or along well-connected roads such as Netaji Road.
• Nagaon — a larger town with schools, colleges and offices; pick a place close to where you will spend your day.

Questions to ask the owner

A short message from the owner with these answers avoids most disputes later.

• Is food included, and can I skip meals I don't eat?
• Is there power backup, and is Wi-Fi available?
• How do I reach my college or office, and how late is transport available?
• What is the deposit, and when is it returned after I leave?
• Are there gate timings or guest rules?
