PG and hostel options in Silchar near NIT Silchar and Silchar Medical College

Pick the side of town first

NIT Silchar and Assam University are on the outskirts, a long ride from the town centre, while Silchar Medical College and most offices and markets are closer in. A cheap room on the wrong side can mean a daily auto ride that costs more than the rent you saved.

• Near NIT Silchar — some students stay inside campus hostels; PGs and rooms nearby fill quickly at the start of each semester.
• Town centre (Tarapur, Ambicapatty, Rangirkhari and nearby) — more choice, more food options and easier transport, but a longer trip to NIT.
• Near Silchar Medical College — popular with medical students, nurses and hospital staff who keep odd hours; ask about gate timings.

What to ask on the visit

Write the answers down or ask the owner to message them to you, so nothing changes after you move in.

• Is food included, how many meals, and what happens on Sundays and holidays?
• Is there a power backup or inverter, and does it cover fans and Wi-Fi?
• How is electricity charged — included, a fixed amount, or by meter?
• Does the area get waterlogged in heavy rain, and how do you get out when it does?
• What is the notice period and when exactly is the deposit returned?

Pay the owner, keep the receipt

Pay rent and deposit to the owner directly and ask for a receipt every time. PG owners on PGkaro receive rent straight to their own UPI or Razorpay account, and every payment produces a numbered receipt on your resident pass. PGkaro never holds rent or deposits.
